Counseling
The mission of the Scituate Public Schools’ School Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive school counseling program of services that promotes the academic, social/emotional, and career potential of all students. Through counseling, advocacy, collaboration, leadership, and systemic change, counselors empower students to become life-long learners, responsible community members, and to achieve personal excellence.
Counseling services are available to all students and families to assist in educational, vocational, and social-emotional concerns. School Counselors and Adjustment Counselors provide a variety of services including the delivery of school counseling curriculum in accordance with the Massachusetts School Counselors Association. Counselors also provide individual student planning, crisis response, and responsive services such individual or small group counseling. Indirect services are also provided on behalf of students and families which can include referrals to outside agencies, advocacy, connection to resources, and collaborating with staff. Counselors epitomize individualized learning by helping to develop a successful academic experience that meets the individual goals and objectives of each student and family.
In addition, Counselors chair Section 504 Plans for students and participate in Student Support Teams, which create, implement and monitor a variety of interventions to support struggling students.
